Sheffield talking Therapies

For anxiety and depression

(formally known as IAPT)

What do they do ?

NHS Talking Therapies, for anxiety and depression services provide NICE* recommended psychological interventions for adults and older adults with anxiety disorders and/or depression. This can be standalone or in the context of a long term physical health condition where this can be managed effectively in a uni-professional service. Evidence-based therapies** are delivered by trained clinicians, with or without concurrent pharmacological treatment.

NHS Talking Therapies, for anxiety and depression services provide treatment for people with the following common mental health problems:

  • agoraphobia

  • body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)

  • depression

  • generalised anxiety disorder

  • health anxiety (hypochondriasis)

  • mixed depression and anxiety (the term for sub-syndromal depression and anxiety, rather than both depression and anxiety)

  • obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

  • panic disorder

  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • social anxiety disorder

  • specific phobias (such as heights, flying, spiders etc.)

  • The Health & Wellbeing team also offers support for stress, anxiety and low mood for people living with the following long-term conditions (LTCs): Asthma Beyond cancer (following successful treatment) Chronic pain COPD Diabetes Fatigue Health anxiety Heart conditions IBS Long covid ME/CFS Skin conditions Tinnitus.

**Evidence-Based therapies  means Evidence-based practice applies research-based treatments that are tailored to meet people's needs, preferences, and cultural expectations. Evidence-based treatments have been rigorously tested in randomized, controlled trials or a series of case studies, and have been proven to have effective outcomes.

How can I access them?

You can contact them and access help in a variety of ways, either self-help or accessed help. You will then be able to speak to someone who will guide you to the best help available, this could be chatting on the phone, self-help, or group sessions typically organised and held at places such as GP surgeries, clinics who specialise in the help you need, or volunteer organisations.  There are also online courses called silvercloud 

You can also chat to your G.P, Health Worker or even just get a friend to help you contact STT.
